Common questions

Remote jobs FAQ

What is RemoteJobsDirectory.org?

A job board for remote work. We list remote roles from startups and remote-first companies, starting with YC startups on Work at a Startup, and refresh the board every day. Every role here is remote; if a listing stops being advertised by the employer, it comes down.

Where do these jobs come from?

Our first source is Y Combinator's Work at a Startup, filtered to remote, full-time engineering roles. We read the public listings daily and link each role back to its source. More sources and more role categories (design, product, sales, and others) are planned; the board is built so they arrive without changing how anything works.

How do I apply?

On a job page, apply here: your details first, then a short screening test that is read as part of your application. We pass your application to the employer. With the apply form unconfigured, the job page links straight to the employer's own application instead.

What does 'Remote (US)' mean?

The role is remote, but the employer wants you based in (or eligible to work in) the United States. 'Remote' on its own usually means worldwide, and other regions are shown the same way, for example Remote (Europe). Always check the employer's own listing for the exact rules.

How often is the board updated?

Daily. A sync reads each source, adds new roles, refreshes known ones, and closes roles that have left the source. A synced role that goes unseen for about a week is hidden automatically, so stale listings do not linger.

Does it cost anything?

No. Browsing and applying are free.

What salary do remote engineering jobs pay?

Most remote engineering roles listed here publish a range, commonly $100K to $250K per year for full-time roles at US startups, with senior and staff roles reaching $300K. The exact range on each job page comes from the employer's own listing, and you can see at a glance which roles publish pay: they show it on their card.

Are all of these jobs fully remote?

Yes, that is the one rule of the board. A role is only listed if the employer's own listing says it is remote. Hybrid and on-site roles from the same sources are stored separately and never shown. 'Remote (US)' and similar labels mean the employer restricts which country you work from, even though the job itself is remote.

How are listings verified and kept accurate?

Each listing is read from the employer's public job page by a daily sync, including its title, location, salary, and full description. If a role leaves the employer's board it is closed here, and a synced role that goes unseen for seven days is hidden automatically. The employer's own page, linked from every job page, is always the authoritative version.
